Wine Tasting on Saturday the 6th “Funky Italy” 3-6

So if you haven’t noticed, I have been creating a theme with the wines and their place of origin for the last couple weeks.  This week we will be going to Italy. I find that Italian wines show a true sense of place.  You’ll see what I’m talking about when you taste them.  As always we’ll have one white and three reds.

First Toh-kai 2008 by Quattro Mani. This wine is crazy good with notes of spearmint and minerals.  This is a project from Ales Kristancic from Movia wines and a couple other great producers.  Very fresh and very different from any Tocai I have ever had, but it is very neat.  MS Bobby Stuckey in Boulder at Frasca Food and Wine serves this as his house pour.  $13

Second Rosso Vino da Tavola 2008 by Paolo Scavino. So if we think about great producers in Piedmont, Scavino would be mentioned in the top five for sure.  This blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Cab offers great notes of sour cherry, rose, and dust  is very easy drinking.  $16

Third Costera 2007 by Argiolas. This wine comes from the southern part of Italy; Sardinia. Aged 6-8 months in barrels this wine is very, very good. The intense, ruby red color of this wine tends toward orange with age. The full bouquet of sweet black cherry, pepper, and licorice is typical of the Cannonau grape. Warm and full bodied on the palate with excellent texture, ripe fruit flavors and pleasant tannins.  $21

And Last Roero Rosso 2007 by Matteo Correggia. For those who can’t afford Barolo or Barberesco, this wine is for you.  100% Nebbiolo that comes from the Roero sub-district in Piedmont.  Notes of high toned cherry, rose, and leather are evident in this purest form of Nebbiolo.  $23

As always we provide a great selection of wines hand picked for your enjoyment, these are but four.   Also we are proud to be supporting the wines of CS Wines of Colorado.  We will be hosting The Pinot Posse tasting upstairs at Garage Bar in March so keep your eyes peeled. These Pinot Noirs come from some of the best wine makers in Cali and Oregon and we’ll be showing them.

Cheers!!!
