Tasty Spanish Treats this Saturday the 30th 3-6

Spain as always had a place in the wine world. Defining itself as an Old World country, but it is an Old World country who tends to make New World wines.  Spain tends to be a moderate to hot climate.  So some wines tend to have a lot of density or extraction.  Also Spain is one of the best value wine on the market. So we feel that we should try some of these tasty treats and see what we think.

First Gessami Blanco by Gramona A blend of Chardonnay, Gewurtz, and Muscat, and let me tell how great this wine is. Notes of peach, pear, melon, and orange zest are some things I found flying out of the glass and overtaking my senses.  A very fresh and mineral driven wine.  The wine is made in the Penedes which is a cooler area for wine in Spain.  $17

Second Sexto by Heron from the Terra Alta area of Spain this wine shows deep black fruit and a touch of spice.  The wine is made up from six different varietals Garnacha, Carignan, Tempranillo, Lledoner Pelut Noir, Cabernet, and Syrah.  Oak influence is minimal, only aged for six months, just adding depth and nothing else.  $14

Third Creta Roble by Eric Solomon & Isaac Fernandez 100% Tempranillo which comes from Ribera del Duero.  The wine is oak aged for 4-5 months in French and American oak.  Great red and black fruits followed by a chalky mineral component.  $17

And Last La Montesa Rioja by Palacios/Remondo Palacios focused his efforts on the Crianza, La Montesa, a Garnacha-based blend from south-facing vineyards grown on the lower slopes of the Yerga mountain range, in pebble and clay soils. In the best vintages, Palacios also makes a top wine, Propiedad, a departure from his father’s use of traditional designations Reserva and Gran Reserva. The estate’s only white wine, Plácet, is made in small quantities from 100% barrel-fermented Viura, planted on the estate in 1989. The final wine, La Vendimia, with its eye-catching, contemporary label, is a fresh, fruit-driven value wine made from Tempranillo and  Garnacha.  $21

If those wines don’t intrigue you I’m not sure what will.  As always we feel that small case production is the way to go. Better care in winemaking and just down right better.  So if your felling giddy stop in and try some great wines and also check out Steamboat Springs best selection of fine wines in all price points.

Cheers!!
